Terms of Service

Draft: this document is awaiting legal review and the operator details below are not final.
The rules for using Social League: who can use it, how to behave, and what we each are responsible for.
1. Who we are and what this agreement covers
These terms are between you and Social League, which runs Social League, a service for organising sports sessions, scoring matches, running leagues and tracking results on the web and in our mobile app.
By creating an account or using Social League you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
2. Who can use Social League
You must be at least 16 years old to have an account. By signing up you confirm that you are.
You must give accurate information and keep it up to date. Do not use the service if we have previously removed your account for breaking these terms, unless we have told you in writing that you may.
3. Your account
You are responsible for what happens under your account and for keeping your sign-in details secure. Tell us promptly at charlescairney@yahoo.co.uk if you think someone else has accessed it.
One person, one account. Do not impersonate another person or share an account.
4. How you must behave
Social League is for friendly competition. When you use it, you must not:
- harass, bully, threaten or abuse anyone, or post hateful or discriminatory content;
- post anything illegal, including content that sexualises children, which we report to the authorities;
- post sexual, violent or otherwise inappropriate content, or share other people's private information without their permission;
- spam, advertise, or send repeated unwanted messages or friend requests;
- cheat, for example by recording false results, using several accounts to inflate ratings, or manipulating rankings;
- impersonate a person, league or organisation;
- try to access other people's accounts or data, probe or disrupt the service, scrape it, or bypass limits or protections;
- use the service in a way that breaks the law.
5. Your content
You keep ownership of what you post: your profile, chat messages, images, league descriptions and results. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive licence to host, store, display and share it as needed to run the service (for example to show your message to the other members of your league). The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except where others have already received it or the law requires us to keep it.
Only post things you have the right to share. You are responsible for your content.
6. Leagues, organisers and moderators
Anyone can create a league and becomes its organiser. Organisers and their admins decide who joins, can remove or ban members from their league and are responsible for running it fairly. They are other users, not employees or agents of ours. We are not a party to arrangements between players or organisers.
7. Reporting and enforcement
You can block people and report people or chat messages from within the app. You can also tell us about illegal or harmful content, or make a complaint, at charlescairney@yahoo.co.uk. We review reports and act on them.
We may remove content, limit features, suspend or close accounts that break these terms or put others at risk, and we may do so without notice where needed to protect people. Where we take action against your account or content, we will tell you why where we can, and you can ask us to review the decision at charlescairney@yahoo.co.uk.
Chat messages are checked against automatic rules (such as banned words and message rate) and may be blocked or flagged.
8. Playing sport in real life
Social League helps people arrange and record games. We do not run, supervise or insure the games, and we do not check venues, equipment or other players. You choose to take part at your own risk and are responsible for your own health, fitness and safety, and for following the rules and safety requirements of the venue and sport. Organisers are responsible for the events they run.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
9. Scores, ratings and place information
Ratings, rankings and statistics are calculated from results recorded by players and organisers. They are for fun and may contain mistakes; we do not guarantee they are accurate. Organisers can correct results within their league.
Place names, addresses and map positions can come from third-party providers or from users. Check before you travel; we do not guarantee that a place exists, is open or is suitable.
10. The service
We work to keep Social League available and accurate, but we provide it “as is” and cannot promise it will always be uninterrupted or error free. We may change, add or remove features, and we may suspend the service for maintenance. We will try to give notice of significant changes.
11. Our intellectual property
The Social League name, logo, design, software and all content we create belong to us or our licensors. You may use the service for your own personal, non-commercial use; you may not copy, resell or build on it without our written permission. If you think content on Social League infringes your copyright, contact us at charlescairney@yahoo.co.uk with the details.
12. Our responsibility to you
We are responsible for losses you suffer that are a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or of our negligence, but not for losses that are not foreseeable. We are not responsible for what other users do or post, for events you attend, or for losses caused by things outside our reasonable control.
Social League is free for personal use. Subject to the paragraph above and the next, our total liability to you for anything relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you have paid us in the previous 12 months and £100.
Nothing excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. If you are a consumer, you keep your legal rights.
13. Ending your use
You can stop using Social League at any time and delete your account from your account settings. You can download your data first.
We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms, if we are required to by law, or if we stop providing the service (in which case we will give reasonable notice). Sections that by their nature should continue, including those about content, liability and disputes, continue after your account ends.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when we add features or when the law changes. We will post the new version here with its date and, for material changes, tell you in the app or by email before they apply. If you keep using Social League after the change, you accept the new terms.
15. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales can resolve disputes, but if you are a consumer living elsewhere you may also bring a claim in your home courts and keep the protection of your local consumer law. Please contact us at charlescairney@yahoo.co.uk first so we can try to resolve any problem.
